Day Seven didn't cover many kilometres but it was a great day. The day started at Turakina with Bob giving Weldon the Wally Award. Weldon had his head slammed in the door and he was too sore to think of a sensible reply to Bob but we will get even!!!!!
We drove into Wanganui and strolled up and down the main drag then decided that we would go to Kai Iwi Beach and try to launch the Kontiki and catch a feed of fish for tea. At the beach we coralled the buses and had lunch. With the tide making we checked out the beach and after a discussion with the Life Guards we went to the top of the beach and launch the Kontiki without hooks to see with way the drift and rips would take it. First time it went left and towards the rocks and a cliff so we haulled it in and reset it. This time it went right and headed for the swimmers so back in it came and with further discussion with the Life Guards we returned to the buses. No fish for tea so out came the steak from the freezers.
Throughout the afternoon we blobbed out in the sun, threw our new frisbees, sore arm, or read. The Hotdog stand seller came and introduced himself, viewed the vans and then offered us a place to park for the night. His wife didn't know about it so we decided not to go. In the early evening we had a BBQ and then returned into Wanganui and parked up at the Wanganui East Club. This is an excellent facility.
A very relaxing day.
