A trip to the North Island by six Nelson motor caravanners. The group left Nelson on the 4th January 2011 and sailed to the North Island by Bluebridge ferry on 5th January. Nothing is planned, just following the front of the motorhome. The basic direction is around the coastline with trips into the centre. Members of the group will be leaving at different times to do their own thing like visiting family, etc. Watch out for daily reports and pictures.

Day 16 - Normanby Golf Club to Tawhiti Museum, Hawera, Opunake
Today the wind and rain had gone and after the morning tasks we drove to the Tawhiti Museum. These two museums are fantastic. The main museum has the history of Taranaki portrayed in miniature. The displays are fantastic and very, very lifelike. Most of the group went into the main, older museum and the other displays the history of whalers. This is very similar and was also well done.
After the museum visit and lunch we went into Hawera and visited the private Elvis museum. This the collecting of one person over the last 50 vears. If you are an Elvis fan then this is for you. It was great. After walking the main street we drove onto Opunake where we parked up for the night. We walked the main street and viewed the murals that feature on the buildings. Some beautiful art work.
As we are parked at a pub we went in for Happy Hour and kids, we decided that we had to spend some more SKI money. WE BOUGHT THIS ONE TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
