Day thirty-two started slowly after a very hot night. We drove to the Kerikeri stone house after dumping. We then drove to Kawakawa to view the toilets built there. They were interesting and it was interesting to note that people were beginning to add similiar features to their buildings.
After a coffee we drove on to Paihia. Along the roads was a lot of damage from the rain and flooding from last weekend. Many roads were just the blacktop, the sides of the roads were washed away. Many paddocks were covered with silty grass. The hills were slipped as well.
At Paihia we parked at a camping area and joined up with Barry and Kay. The afternoon was very hot so we stayed in the shade. In the early evening we walked into town for a fish and chip tea on the beach and walked into Paihia and then to Waitangi where preparations for Waitangi Day were underway. There were waka on the beaches and the Treaty Grounds were deserted but ready.
